Squash court flooring

There’s no question – the floor in a squash court has to be top notch.

In fast paced games like squash and racquetball, the squash floor should give the player freedom of movement, optimal ball bounce and protection against injuries. A solid beech floor has proved itself to be the best option in preference to all the other types of floor that might be used for squash courts.

The ideal squash court floor

The case for a solid beech squash court floor in preference to laminated wood floors was made decades ago, offering the best surface for players at all levels. Junckers recommend the 22mm thick solid Beech SylvaSquash as the “go-to” floor.

Junckers unique press drying process makes our squash floor very strong and results in a wooden floor that is inherently stable throughout the natural cycle of humidity changes during the year.

A squash court floor must have a high level of ”grip”. Junckers Beech SylvaSquash floorboards are unsealed and have a slightly roughened surface, which provides the right level of friction whether the surface is wet or dry, and so keeps risk of injury to an absolute minimum.

Technical performance

While the surface of the squash floor is important, what is also vital to a squash floor is what goes underneath. The undercarriage system has a direct bearing on the performance of the floor.

EN 14904 STANDARD
All Junckers’ sports flooring systems have unique area elastic properties to ensure optimal shock absorption in accordance with the European EN 14904 standard. This means Junckers’ floors are proven as suitable for squash courts at the highest level.

A squash floor that complies with EN 14904 cat A3 or A4, as well as the technical requirements of World Squash Federation and England Squash, will have defined limits for shock absorption and surface deflection. The standards relate both to safety and technical properties including friction, rolling load, vertical deformation, shock absorption and ball bounce.

POINT LOAD TEST
In addition to the European standard, Junckers has added two further internal tests to demonstrate the strength and longevity of their floors. A fatigue test where the floor is exposed to a series of controlled, dynamic point impacts of 300kg no less than 100,000 times, which simulates the equivalent of 25 years of normal use; and a point load test.

A durable squash court floor

Not only is a squash floor from Junckers one of the safest and best performing wood floors on the market, they can be sanded between eight and ten times during their lives. In terms of life cycle cost and investment value this makes them unbeatable.

Full technical backup

Installing a Junckers wood flooring for squash gives clients the benefit of full technical backup throughout the life of the squash floor.

Sub-construction: The foundation for your squash court

Sub-construction refers to the underlying structure that supports the playing surface of a squash court. The sub-construction of a squash floor plays a critical role in the overall performance and safety of the court. A well-constructed sub-floor and sub-structure provide a stable foundation for the playing surface, ensuring that the court remains level and does not warp or buckle over time. They also help to absorb shock and reduce the impact on players' joints, helping to prevent injuries.

At Junckers you can choose between a wide variety of sub-constructions that will fit any need you might have.

Easy cleaning and maintenance of your squash court floor

Maintenance of a Junckers squash court is simple. On a daily basis, it is more than enough to use a scrubber-dryer machine with a low dosage of water. To keep the floor in optimal condition, we offer maintenance products such as resin remover, degreaser and mild soap products.

Additionally, we produce our own sports lacquer. The lacquer is approved in accordance with the European sports standard EN 14904 and has a high ability to bond with the existing surface. This means that only a light screening of the floor is needed before refreshing with one coat of our sports lacquer. If years of hard wear require a more comprehensive refinishing, it is possible to sand the floor down for complete restoration. If a sports floor is regularly maintained, sanding down to bare wood is rarely necessary.

Solid hardwood squash courts flooring - Certified wood and caring for the indoor climate

Junckers only use wood from forests managed in a sustainable and environmentally responsible way. Planting new trees as old ones are cut down is one of the characteristics of sustainable forestry. To protect the climate, we strive to use wood harvested as close as possible to our factory. This is why our raw wood is mainly sourced from forest areas in Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Poland.

Junckers achieved Chain of Custody certification in 2006 and has since been able to offer PEFC certified products. In 2010, we also achieved certification under the FSC® scheme.

Furthermore, we have a wide range of wood flooring and woodcare products that carry the Danish Indoor Climate Label. The Indoor Climate Label is your guarantee that the products do not have odours or chemical substances that can adversely affect the air quality in the room.
