Built in 1878, Millport Town Hall on the Isle of Cumbrae has been thoughtfully refurbished by architects O’DonnellBrown. The building has been brought back to active use with a series of flexible spaces designed to serve as a multipurpose hub, and now the town hall is once again at the centre of local the community.
In a robust material palette that includes Junckers Oak Nordic Harmony two-strip flooring, the updated spaces complement the original fabric of the building and its surrounding area.
O’DonnellBrown has created a several new spaces with a sense of continuity and flow, including a community hub, a heritage and conservation centre, accessible facilities, and a sheltered garden, all centred around the restored performance hall.
Designed to support a wide range of activities, the building features hard-working spaces that will provide the local area with new economic and social benefits. A durable, adaptable floor, solid hardwood offers flexibility of use and is a longlasting option that will serve the building well for many decades. The floor is made to withstand heavy foot traffic and a multitude of activities, including accommodating furniture, fixtures and fittings such as tables and chairs, retractable seating and even machinery. Straight-forward care and maintenance requirements allow for short and long-term budgeting - the 22 mm oak floor needs minimal day-to-day cleaning and can be refurbished up to ten times should the need arise.
