Top of the class

Over the past few years, there has been a substantial change in the flooring specification guidelines for schools by the Education & Skills Funding Agency, particularly with regards to sports flooring. To qualify for Government funding to build, improve or upgrade a sports hall, a school has to specify an area elastic floor as the safest option for multi-sport activity.

Well-known within the industry and beyond for our high performing, durable sports flooring systems, we’ve provided sports floors for many, many schools and colleges, as well as world class Olympic arenas around the globe. Solid hardwood sports floors have always been regarded as a top-quality choice, but traditionally, they’ve been seen as an expensive option. However, this is not altogether true. Many contractors and specifiers are surprised to discover that a Junckers SylvaSport Club floor and undercarriage system is in fact the same price or less than an engineered timber or vinyl sports floor.

Our SylvaSport Club, a lively looking floor with colour and structural graining variation, offers an area elastic floor to EN14904 standard, certified for multipurpose sport use. With our trademark longer staves, this solid Beech floor has greater and more consistent strength. For the price of a lesser quality floor, a school can have one of the most durable surfaces there are. As well as its good-value price, a Junckers floor has a lifecycle cost which is second to none – it can be sanded and re-finished eight to ten times during its life. With 12- year intervals between sandings, a typical lifespan of 60 years will comfortably be exceeded, a claim that probably no other type of sports floor can match. Compared with a typical 15-year life of a synthetic or “engineered” floor there really is no comparison.

In addition, a hardwood floor is one of the most environmentally friendly sports floor finishes there is. All our timber comes from managed forests with FSC® and PEFCTM chain of custody certification. Timber is harvested from old, established forest areas, which are constantly replanted. All Junckers floors are carbon neutral and at the end of their lives they are very easy to recycle, in contrast to materials made from fossil fuels.

The recently completed Bulmershe Leisure Centre in Woodley features Junckers SylvaSport Club. The centre is operated by Places For People and built by main contractor Pelikaan Construction. Pelikaan has a long standing supply deal with Junckers to provide sports flooring for multiple projects. The flooring contractor at Bulmershe Leisure Centre was Courtcraft.
