Sprung Dance Floors

Safety, performance, portability and durability – these are some of the most important considerations when choosing a wood floor for a dance studio or a portable dance floor for use in a multi purpose space.

Wooden dance floor

Dancers interact with the floor more closely than any other part of the studio or performance space and they have to trust the surface completely. A shock absorbing surface is essential to avoid injuries, as is the right level of friction and "feedback" so they can perform at their best. Aesthetics are important too. The right floor finish will create the best environment for creativity and motivation. The beauty of solid hardwood is hard to beat in this respect.

Junckers manufactures specialist dance floor systems for professionals to grass roots level, and for all styles including contemporary, modern, ballet, ballroom, and for dance-based fitness classes such as Zumba. In education too, Junckers wooden dance floors are found in spaces where A level dance syllabus is taught.

Junckers dance floors are designed to provide optimum shock absorption, surface deflection and slip resistance. The range includes a full spectrum of stained colours from white shades, grey and natural wood tones, to jet black. Junckers also offers natural Beech, Ash, Maple and Oak, for the traditionalists. Junckers narrow two-strip floorboards create clean lines which are ideal for contemporary or minimalist concepts, whilst wide planks can be used to create a raw and earthy, or naturally rustic appearance.

There are no dediated technical standards for dance floors and the benchmark most often used is EN 14904 for multi purpose sports floors. This makes sense because athletes usually look for the same performance and safety characteristics from the floor as dancers. Junckers has a wide range of floor systems that comply with EN 14904 and dancers usually prefer the more shock absorbing category A4 floors as defined by the standard.

For the designer Junckers offers a range of dance floor systems to suit different construction levels and subfloors, all providing the high quality sprung dance floor that dancers need. For refurbishments with restricted floor height the Clip system is the ideal sprung overlay floor. Junckers BluBat and UnoBat 45 sprung dance floors are foam backed batten systems whose performance outweighs their simplicity. For uneven subfloors and where the designer wants to omit the screed the UnoBat 62+ levelling systems are ideal. Junckers DouBat 120+ system is a levelling system with an elite level of performance appreciated by dancers up to professional level.

Portable Dance Floors

Junckers Portable Dance Floors are the ultimate in versatility. Junckers Portable A3 and Pro Complete 44 portable floor systems offer the same performance characteristics as the range of fixed installation floors and are made from the same beautiful solid hardwood.

Solid hardwood dance flooring - the best choice for the environment

But one of the reasons that so many designers and clients choose a solid hardwood floor is its life span and low life cycle costs. A Junckers dance floor can be refurbished between eight and ten times during its life by sanding and sealing it. This also makes it one of the best environmental choices. Solid hardwood is a natural material, carbon neutral, has low embodied energy, is easily recycled. It has such a long life span that its impact upon the environment is significantly less than shorter lived materials. Vinyl is derived from crude oil, cannot be recycled and so imposes a large burden on landfill. Its life span is about one quarter of that of hardwood so four vinyl floors will be manufactured and disposed of for every one hardwood floor.

The hardwood that Junckers uses is FSC®, PEFC™ or SFI certified, fully sustainable and carbon neutral, it is very easy to recycle at the end of its 60 year plus life span.

Pre-finished surface

Junckers solid hardwood floor systems are pre-finished, fast to install and cost effective. This all helps the installer to keep to his schedule and means that the owner will have minimal “down time” before the studio will be ready for use. A solid hardwood floor offers unbeatable life cycle costs and the initial cost will be less that a similar synthetic floor finish, with all the low carbon and environmental benefits that solid hardwood brings.
