Caring for the environment is central to our business
Wood is a renewable raw material. When trees grow, they absorb CO₂ from the atmosphere and store carbon in the wood. When the wood is used in flooring, the carbon remains stored in the material throughout the floor’s service life. Junckers has manufactured solid hardwood flooring since 1930, with a longstanding focus on making effective use of timber resources.
Across our operations, we work with requirements for legal timber sourcing, energy management and good working conditions. Selected Junckers products are available with FSC® or PEFC chain-of-custody certification. For these products, the certification documents a certified and traceable supply chain.
Our product development considers material use, expected service life, maintenance, opportunities for reuse and available end-of-life routes. For selected flooring products, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) report environmental impacts within their stated scope. This documentation helps specifiers assess relevant product data and select a flooring solution suited to the project’s requirements.

A FLOOR WITH A LONG LIFESPAN
With proper installation and maintenance, a Junckers floor can have a lifespan of 60+ years, reducing the need for replacement. A Junckers floor also provides documented indoor climate information, as relevant floors carry the Danish Indoor Climate Label and have been tested for emissions and odour in accordance with the label’s criteria. The documentation may also support relevant BREEAM assessments. In addition, wood can help maintain an even temperature in a room and minimise electrical static. Light-coloured floor finishes such as ash, beech and Nordic Oak can help reflect daylight into a room.
FLOOR FOR EVERY PROJECT
For commercial, residential, sports projects and public buildings, there is a sustainable Junckers flooring solution for every project. For new buildings as well as ideal for upgrading existing buildings with an environmentally sound flooring option, Junckers offers a choice of versatile installation methods for refurbishments, including levelling batten systems which allow screeds to be omitted, popular for listed buildings and heritage projects. Junckers floors are also recommended for projects which are built for disassembly as they are easy to lift and reuse. Many a Junckers floor takes on a new lease of life when re-fitted as a reclaimed floor. A sand and seal will bring an old floor right back to pristine condition, ready for use for many more years.
RESOURCE EFFICIENCY IS A PART OF OUR DNA
Our story began in 1930, when a young Flemming Juncker united his passion for solid wood floors of the highest quality with a philosophy of making effective use of timber resources. Ahead of his time, Flemming’s approach to working with wood and making use of available raw materials helped shape the company’s production methods. From its early years, Junckers searched for ways to use timber efficiently and limit the amount of unused wood from production.
JUNCKERS THROUGH TIME
Assessing climate and environmental impacts is part of how we develop our floors. The need for documented environmental information pushes, inspires, and questions us, whether we are rethinking production methods, making use of by-products, supporting the timber industry, or expanding our product documentation. Making efficient use of timber resources has been part of our approach since 1930.
CERTIFICATES AND BUILDING SCHEMES
Even though Junckers has worked with environmental management and product documentation for many years, having the right company policies and practices is not enough. We recognise the need to provide independent evidence to clients and designers. We hold FSC® and PEFC Chain of Custody certifications and ISO 14001 certification. We have also had independent product testing carried out for VOC emissions from relevant products under CDPH standards and the Danish Indoor Climate Label scheme and have completed EPDs for selected floors. This documentation is an important tool for designers assessing building projects under BREEAM, LEED, WELL and DGNB. Its relevance depends on the selected product, project and individual scheme criteria.
